ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ---- A couple of newly minted Academy Award nominated filmmakers made a welcome return home at the BMO Harris Bank on Sunday.

As part of their "Our Town, Our Team" campaign, the Rockford IceHogs hosted the local filmmakers of the Oscar-nominated "Minding the Gap" documentary at the team's regular-season home finale.

Rockford natives Bing Liu, Keire Johnson and Zack Mulligan were honored during the second period and presented with a donation to benefit the local charity, "Remedies Renewing Lives," which provides critical services for domestic violence and substance abuse to Boone and Winnebago counties.

"It's part of a larger thing that's been happening this weekend thematically, starting with the mayor announcing yesterday at our afternoon screening that we are in Rockford opening up a family justice center so that it can be a one-stop shop for survivors and their families,” said Liu.
