ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Students at Guilford High School who have enlisted in the military were honored for their decision to serve our country with a special signing ceremony.

The future service men and women were sworn in and celebrated what's to come. Several of the students ship out for basic training in a just a few weeks, but they say they are excited to get started.

"I'll get the chance to travel the world before most people are done with college,” said future Marine Mauricio Lavariega. “And then when I'm out I get my college paid for. I get benefits, I get respect from everyone, I serve my country. It's, in my opinion, my best option."
