ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- They've used their Highland education as a key towards their success and tonight six HCC alums are honored with the distinguished alumni award.

This is the 25th annual dinner and among this year's recipients were Lena State bank President Curtis Derrer, WFRl radio personality Shary Meinert. And Chris Schneiderman who's currently the executive vice president of state bank in Freeport.

"It helped me tremendously. It gave me a lot of opportunity and it prepared me for additional real life experiences,” said Chris Schneiderman class of ’98.

“I do serve on the highland foundation board of directors and I’ve done that a little over a year. That's been very rewarding to bring back memories as to why I like highland community college and why it's so important to our community,” said Jolene Bohnsack, a distinguished alumni.
