AMBOY, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Amboy School District will let out all students early on Wednesday due to excessive heat.

District Superintendent Joshua Nichols says the school's early dismissal policy takes effect with the heat index is expected to exceed 92 degrees by 1 p.m.

Nichols say Amboy Junior high will dismiss at 2:05, Central at 2:10, and the High School at 2:20. The school district has also canceled afternoon preschool, early childhood education and WACC, in addition to all athletics and extracurriculars.

The decision comes as some classrooms reached 87 degrees earlier in the morning. The district will continue to monitor internal classroom temperatures.

Amboy School District says they have not yet made a decision for Thursday.
