ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Loves Park City Council gave recognition to some Harlem Middle School students and their art teacher for creating tree ornaments to represent Illinois in the tree lighting ceremony in Washington, D.C. The students were able to personally hand Loves Park Mayor Greg Jury the ornament they worked so hard on which highlights their love for Loves Park. The mayor liked it so much he said it would be put it on display that same night.

”We have a band going around it a braid that has 4 strands instead of three so it's very unique it's to represent that individually we're all beautiful but together we are stronger,” student Samantha Grinnall said.

“So the heart on Illinois represents where we are and the heart pendant on the bottom represents Loves Park,” student Mackenzie Piwcewicz explained.
