Harlem High School's showcases LYB campaign

Machesney Park, Ill. (WIFR) - When walking the Harlem High School halls, you will find some permanent positivity when it comes to the fight against body shaming.

Three students from the Harlem Women's Studies class got approval from the principal to paint "love your body" quotes on the walls of the women's bathroom.

Taylor DuPree, Kimmy Orr and Kylee Semenchuk started painting on Nov. 10, and recently the three finished their inspirational artwork. All the quotes include the hashtag "#HarlemLYB."

The girls did this so they could track the reactions to the project.

"At first it started off like wanting to make a campaign day at Harlem. And the more we discussed it in class and the more we thought about it, the more I thought this would be a better way to express it," said Harlem Women's Studies student Taylor DuPree. "A lot of girls have seen it. A lot of girls have reached out to me and said that this really brightened their day and that this helped, like, their perspective of themselves on that day."

The Women's Studies program is a semester class started by English teacher Carly Maki in the fall of 2017.
