ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- As Hard Rock International continues its push for a casino in Rockford, the group opened an informational office downtown.
The center, which opened on Rockford Day - August 15, is located at 308 W. State Street.
Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen celebrated the opening in his hometown. Hard Rock gave out branded T-shirts and stickers to guests.
In July, Hard Rock International announced preliminary plans for a casino in the Forest City. It would be located at the site of the former Clock Tower Resort on East State Street near I-90.
Hard Rock and the Rock River West Group are among two organizations that announced intentions to submit a casino proposal. Rockford will consider all casino proposals submitted by Aug. 30.
The push for a Rockford casino comes after Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a gaming expansion bill into law in June, which allows Rockford and five other Illinois cities to explore land-based casinos.
