WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- Nearly 50 residents and Chairperson Frank Haney filed a federal lawsuit against 13 members of the Winnebago County Board.
It says that the Chairperson was elected with more than 60,000 votes in the Nov. 2016 election, but efforts to thwart and reform his abilities in the role were hampered.
The complaint alleges that a segment of the board passed several mid-term ordinance changes, that "crippled the chairman's ability to impact the internal and external policy making that voter’s clearly supported in the 2016 election."
The lawsuit contains nine counts, citing the right to vote, freedom of speech, procedural due process and common law retaliation.
