Guilford High School celebrates its newest group of future teachers

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- While signing ceremonies are often reserved for athletics and military service, one Rockford high school is breaking the mold, celebrating its newest crop of teachers.

Eight Guilford High School seniors signed their letters of intent. Pledging to serve the Forest City as future educators by attending Rockford University’s Education Pathway. As they prepare to start their studies, Executive Principal Gus Carter says he's thrilled to see success brewing from his fellow Vikings, "We've been doing this for a while and its part of this program, really, where we're talking about growing our own. Where we really want to be able to fill our teaching vacancies with quality applicants, who know our kids, who know our culture, who know our community and want to be a part of making it the best that it can possibly be."
