Gov. Pritzker signs bills supporting hospitals, school districts

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed multiple bills into action Friday afternoon.

The new laws particularly support hospitals and school districts.

SB 526 allows hospitals to be reimbursed for providing care to children who have psychiatric stays beyond medical necessity. After 11 days, the Department of Children and Family Services is required to pay the DCFS per diem rate for in-patient psychiatric stay.

Another new law aims to improve access to property tax relief for low-income schools. SB 2096 reduces administrative barriers and allows a state superintendent, rather than a panel, to make decisions about the funding.

Pritzker also signed bills into action allowing caterers to return alcohol to distributors under extended circumstances and allowing mayors and presidents of cities, villages and towns to perform marriages without compensation.
