ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Many of us have been busy decorating for Christmas day, but nearly two dozen now-decorated students put down the tinsel and picked up the tassels for graduation day.
The Goodwill of Northern Illinois GED graduate class of 2019 is the largest in the program's five-year history.
Twenty-two students obtained their GED with the help of the Goodwill program to overcome obstacles such as testing fees and lack of transportation.
The students received their hard-earned diploma Wednesday afternoon at a graduation ceremony at Veteran's Memorial Hall.
"We really provide that wraparound support," says Ben Bernsten, Goodwill of Northern Illinois president. "Our instructors, our case managers really invest in these students. Se see students that have had challenges sticking with the program in the past and they come to Goodwill and we get them to the finish line."
