ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Girl Scouts delivered a special surprise to local hospital patients on Friday.

Girl Scouts Troop 1638 created 24 handmade blankets for children in emergency rooms at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The girls used money from recent cookie sales drive to purchase materials needed to make the blankets.

Girl Scouts say it was important to give back.

"We wanted to help little kids," said Megan Schlarman. "We were going to do toys, but instead we thought it better to donate blankets."

"Becasue it's cold and everybody gets cold in the winter," said Josie Becker "The blankets could warm them up."
