German shepherd shot after charging at deputy in Janesville

JANESVILLE, Wis. A deputy shot a German shepherd that charged at him while he tried to deliver civil papers at a home Monday night, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Department.

Police say the deputy approached an open gate at the Janesville home around 7:40 p.m. A German shepherd charged at him quickly, which led to the officer shooting the dog.

The deputy shot the dog in one leg before the dog retreated to its backyard. The dog was taken to an emergency veterinary for treatment.

The deputy was not hurt. Janesville police assisted with investigating the scene.
