Gas prices drop 15 cents in the past month

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Gas prices continue trickling downward in the Rockford region, according to GasBuddy.

Today, the cheapest price for an unleaded gallon of gas is $2.35 in Rockford.

That's 15.5 cents lower than a month ago, and nearly 30 cents cheaper than this time last year.

On July 1, gas price taxes doubled in the state to 38 cents per gallon.

The national average right now is $2.55 per gallon, and is following similar downward trends like Rockford.

In the past decade, the highest gas price on this day was in 2012, when the average gas price in Rockford was $3.98/g.
