LAS VEGAS, Nev. (WIFR) - Stateline man Steven Parrott has already secured a huge payday at the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. And friends back home in Rockford are celebrating.
Friends of Steven Parrott got together Thursday night at Bullpen Bar and Slots on Riverside Boulevard to cheer the local poker star on.
The 39-year-old Parrott is an assistant manager at a Rockford Sprint store. Steven grew up in Cherry Valley but now lives in Rockton with his wife Kirsten and 16 month old daughter Adalynn.
And in his first ever entry in the world series of poker main event. Parrott has not only cracked the top 100 but he's also assured himself of at least a $100,000 payout.
"He's an awesome guy," said Shannon McGraw from Bullpen Bar and Slots. "He went far. We're all really proud of him and regardless of what happens tonight and throughout the whole tournament we are going to have a party for him and we're going to celebrate him"
As of 10 p.m. Thursday, Parrott is 61st out of 61 players still alive. Even if he's the next to be eliminated, Parrott will still win $142,215.
