ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- One of officer Jaimie Cox's long-time friends is remembering him after his death.
"I couldn't have asked for a better friend or classmate. I mean, he was... just the best, you know," says Paul Sutkay.
The two played football together through high school at Hononegah. Sutkay says they didn't talk as much after graduation, but they have always stayed in touch.
Sutkay says the last time he saw Jaimie was about a month ago, however, he tells me it has impacted him in a big way. Sutkay says Cox gave 100 % no matter what he was doing.
"Awesome guy - give you the shirt off his back, you know. I mean, look what he chose to do with his life, you know. He chose to go serve his country - put himself in risk there. Comes back... chooses to serve domestically."
Sutkay also says Cox was always happy and in a good mood no matter what.
Cox graduated from Hononegah in 2006. Years later. He became an officer with the Rockford Police Department in December 2016.
