Freeport man arrested for allegedly stabbing girlfriend

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Freeport man is in jail after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend Thursday morning.

Around 3:15 a.m. Freeport Police responded to a home on North Van Buren in reference to a domestic violence complaint.

Officials report that 56-year-old Carnell Peterson and his live-in girlfriend got into an argument, when Peterson allegedly stabbed her in the thigh with a pocket knife. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Peterson has been charged with domestic battery and is currently in the Stephenson County Jail.

Police records show Peterson previously entered a guilty plea to previous domestic battery charged in 2019. The prior conviction enhances charges to a felony level.
