Freeport area high school, elementary students perform for veterans

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) -- With Veteran's Day coming up over the weekend, schools around the Stateline made sure to thank those who served before an emotional weekend.

Freeport High School and Blackhawk Elementary School students combined talents in a musical performance for area veterans.

Standard patriotic songs were performed to give thanks to our nation's heroes.

Music teachers for the high school say they wanted to show students the role music has played for the military and those who served.

"Music is the vehicle that we use to get the message across to these students," said Freeport music instructor Jeff Lehman. "They really need to learn who a veteran is, what they have done for them and why they should honor them. None of us would be here today were it not for those veterans. It's that simple."
