FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) -- Freeport now has one of Illinois' 18 cultivation centers approved to grow cannabis for recreational adult-use once it becomes legal in 2020.
In Grown Farms was approved by the Illinois Department of Agriculture on Friday. The facility can grow recreational adult-use cannabis starting on Jan. 1, 2020.
Right now, only cultivation centers licensed to grow medical marijuana can apply for adult-use growth. IDOA says social equity applicants will have additional opportunities to apply for cultivation center licenses in an upcoming phase.
With the approval of In Grown Farms, 18 of the state's 21 medical cultivation facilities have now been approved to grow for adult use.
Adult-use cannabis license applications for craft growers, infusers and transporters will be available through the IDOA beginning on January 7, 2020. The application deadline is March 15, 2020.
