Four Indiana teens arrested after car chase, armed robberies

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rockford police announce the arrests of four Indiana teenagers following a weekend car chase following two armed robberies.

Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to Dollar General on Kishwaukee Street for an armed robbery.

Police learned four masked male suspects armed with handguns demanded money from an employee then took off in a black four-door car.

Later that evening, officers responded to another armed robbery at Family Dollar on Springfield Avenue.

Police say four armed males forced a clerk standing outside to go into the store and give them money from the registers.

Suspect descriptions matched those at the Dollar General armed robbery.

Just before 10 p.m., sheriff's deputies identified a stolen vehicle on Montague Road with four occupants who matched suspect descriptions.

Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputies, Illinois State Police Troopers and Rockford Police Officers pursued the vehicle in a high-speed chase that ended near the Beacon Hills Apartments in the 5100 block of Linden Road.

The suspects took off on foot but were taken into custody.

Police recovered several BB guns, along with masks, hoods, gloves and money.

The teens, ranging from 13 to 17 years, all from South Bend, are charged with aggravated robbery and resisting/obstructing an officer. The 17-year-old is also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing to elude.

They were taken to the Juvenile Detention Center and are considered innocent until proven guilty.
