ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Four local nurses are honored for their efforts to improve care for patients at Heartland Hospice.

Four Hospice and Palliative Care nurses at Heartland Hospice pass board certification after four years of training and testing programs. Heartland says to reach this honor, nurses have to work in the Hospice field for at least two years.

The Hospice Center believes having these board certified nurses on their staff shows the commitment they have to their patients.

"We have excellent leaders that help get us there and push us through, but we really provide amazing care to our patients and do the best we can and can't speak enough about the staff that we have here," says newly certified nurse Christina Markese.

Markese says she hopes all nurses at Heartland will earn this certification.
