ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Former Rockford doctor, Charles Dehaan, was sentenced to nine years in prison.

The sentence comes after Dehaan, a 64-year-old from Belvidere, plead guilty to molesting elderly and disabled patients.

Dehaan was sentenced on three counts of aggravated battery. According to court records, Dehaan inappropriately touched three victims during home health care appointments at their residences between Oct. 2010 and Dec. 2013.

Two victims were at least 60 and the third was physically handicapped at the time of the incidents, per records.

Dehaan was sentenced for three years for each victim. The nine-year sentence will not kick in until January 2025, when Dehaan's sentence for a separate federal case ends.

Dehaan will also be required to have one year of mandatory supervised release. A motion hearing is set for next month in the case the defense appeals.

During closing arguments Thursday, the state prosecutor read victim impact statements out loud to the court. Victims say they felt ashamed and embarrassed detailing that they no longer felt safe in the place they lived.

The defense also presented statements from Dehaan's oldest daughter, wife and Dehaan himself. The Defense presented the statements asking the court to grant Dehaan leniency in the ruling due to his health and age.
