Former Cherry Valley officer sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexual assault

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A former Cherry Valley police officer is sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of criminal sexual assault.

Jason Personette, 37, was arrested in 2018 after an investigation. He was accused of sexual activity with a girl between the ages of 13 and 17 in the Police Explorer’s Program. Personette was an adviser in the program.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and is expected to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.
