MADISON, Wisc. (WIFR) -- A federal grand jury in Madison indicts 62-year-old Larry Woods of Beloit for child sexual assault charges.

Woods faces two counts of transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in sexual activity with a minor. Charges say Woods took a 14-year-old from Wisconsin to Illinois on May 4 and 10.

This comes about two months after the girl's mother came forward alleging Woods sexually assaulted her daughter at least three times within the past year.

Woods was taken into custody June 13 and transported to the Dane County Jail.

He worked as a Beloit officer for 25 years before retiring in 2007.

Woods faces between 10 years and life in prison for the charges if found guilty.

His trial is scheduled for Feb. 4.

UPDATE: BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) - Just 13 hours after a Rock County mother reports the sexual assualt of her 14-year-old daughter, a former Beloit police officer is taken into custody.

Beloit police Chief David Zibolski couldn't say how 62-year-old Larry Woods met the victim but charges allege Woods sexually assaulted her at least three times within the past year.

Zibolski says the FBI could soon be involved with the case saying Woods allegedly violated the federal Mann Act which prohibits anyone from taking someone across state lines to commit a crime of sexual assault or prostitution.

Zibolski says Woods worked as a Beloit officer for 25 years before retiring in 2007. He then worked as a security guard for the Beloit Public Library as well as with the Beloit School District. Woods has been placed on administrative leave from the library.

Zibolski says the evidence against Woods makes this case more than just allegations. He says actions like this hurt the work done by law-abiding officers.

Woods is held on $100,000 bond in the Dane County Jail. Zibolski says he was not booked into Rock County due to his history in Beloit.
