BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) -- Flora Grange's 18th Annual Safety Town Day Camp returns for its 18th year, offering free learning experiences for Boone County children.
The camp takes place at the Boone County Fairgrounds' main dining pavilion. It features different safety workshops each day including Internet, bus, pet and fire safety.
Although the camp is for children ages 5 through 8, parents are encouraged to stay and participate. The camp's organizers feel that they are making a difference with the program.
"When 9/11 happened, I thought it was very important to bring attention to parents, as well as children the importance of being safe no matter where they are," said Laurel Ratcliffe, community service leader at Flora Grange. "At the items that we touch on at this safety town, I feel they're going to run into at some point in their life."
The camp will run through Friday, June 14. Each child participating will aslo recieve a take-home craft and snack each day.
