Flooding forces one Freeport school to close, canceled bus routes

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) -- Taylor Park Elementary School will close for a second straight day after flooding.

All other schools in the Freeport School District plan to stay open, according to a district spokesperson.

Buses will not run in the Taylor Park area Tuesday. The school district says this affects around seven bus routes, and the families affected have been notified.

Students affected by the flooding will be excused due to lack of busing, but parents are encouraged to contact the school district in that case.

The Freeport Housing Authority has been helping some students commute to school with alternate routes.

The district is currently working on a back-up plan to get 200 students from Taylor Park school to a different facility if the school remains closed by Wednesday.
