BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) -- As flooding continues to affect the Stateline, farmers around the area are facing some unexpected consequences.
Fowler Farms in Belvidere was significantly impacted by the flooding. Several acres of corn and other crops were destroyed by high-standing flood waters.
“When you get rain, you get wind,” said farmer Scott Fowler. “When you have the wind, [crops] go over a bit easy so it will slow down the process of harvest this fall and add a little more cost."
While the farm has been running for more than a hundred years, the flood is nothing new to the family.
Due to the flooding, the Fowler family recommends being aware on the roads for moving farm equipment and driving slowly around farms during harvest season.
