STEPHENSON COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- Flooding slams some areas of Stephenson and Carroll counties, leaving several roads closed during Wednesday evening commutes.

Business Route 20 west of Freeport is closed from flooding in Stephenson County. Rural roads near the Peactonica River, Yellow Creek and Richland Creek may also be closed from excessive flooding, per the National Weather Service.

In Carroll County, the Plum River is out of its banks in Mount Carroll. NWS says Spurr Road and Old Galena Trail Road are impassable and closed as of 4 p.m.

Additional closures are expected near Plum River as it continues to rise.

Drivers are asked to avoid these areas. The National Weather Service advises drivers to turn around and find an alternate route if flooding persists.
