PEARL CITY, Ill. (WIFR)-- Less than 48 hours ago some of Pearl City's streets had completely disappeared most the water has come down. Now the village is trying to put itsself back together. While many members of this community are still pumping water out of basements and homes, others are figuring out how they can be of help. The American Legion in Pearl City is also opening their doors offering three meals a day through Friday as well as handing out non perishable food items, cleaning supplies, and disaster kits.

PEARL CITY, Ill. (WIFR) -- Many houses in Pearl City were forced to evacuate their homes because of the heavy rainfall.

The city has flooded so much the only way to enter the city is through the south. Houses, businesses and cars are severely damaged from the flooding. Many neighbors evacuated last night and early this morning to escape the rising water levels. Now, the only way some people can get back to their homes is by taking a boat through the flooded street.

"That was hard. Just trying to figure out what do I take, what do i not take? So we took as much stuff as we could upstairs as we could, and got out what we could. So it was kind of heartbreaking looking down the steps and just seeing your stuff floating around," said homeowner Tamara Roach.
