ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- City of Rockford public works says it is immediately closing 9th Street at Railroad Avenue due to flood concerns in the area.

Mitch Leatherby, the Superintendent of Public Works Operations, says work at the viaduct will continue through June 27.

Traffic control and detour signs will be placed in the area to help drivers find an alternate route.
