First National Bank in Belvidere robbed, evacuated over 'suspicious package'

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) -- First National Bank in Belvidere was robbed, then evacuated over a "suspicious package" Thursday afternoon, according to Belvidere police.

Police responded to the bank, located at 1725 S. State St., shortly after 1 p.m. Belvidere Police Chief Shane Woody says they were joined by FBI agents and other local authorities.

No one is believed to be hurt from the robbery or evacuation, according to police.

The suspect was described as a dark-skinned man, six feet tall and thin build, wearing jeans and a blue/black hooded sweatshirt.

Police say the suspect vehicle, a dark SUV, left the area following the robbery.
