ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- No one is hurt after a high-rise on Rockford’s east side catches fire Friday night, causing $20,000 in damages.
Investigators say they were called to Faust Landmark at 630 East State Street around 7:52 p.m. for a fire alarm. The fire was in an apartment on the 9th floor of the high-rise. The sprinklers were activated, and that helped keep the fire in that apartment until crews got there.
A Metro Enforcement Officer helped an adult man out of the apartment. He was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No one else was hurt.
Because of fire and water damage, two apartments in the high-rise can’t be lived in. The Red Cross is helping to relocate those two residents.
A City of Rockford Building Department Inspector helped to asses the building. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
