ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The family of Xzavier Parker, 27, has started a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses

Parker was killed from an apartment fire Tuesday morning in the 1000 block of North Court Street.

The Rockford Fire Department responded to the fire around 1 a.m. Fire officials say one victim, later identified as Parker, was taken to local hospital in critical condition, but later died from his injuries.

Crews say the fire started in a second floor apartment, but the cause is unknown. Officials say the fire caused around $10,000 in damages.

Louise Crayton, Parker's mother, started the GoFundMe. She says, "I lost my beloved son to a fire on April 16, 2019. His father and I want to give him proper home-going celebration. The past weekend he celebrated his 27th birthday. Words can never express the loss you feel when you lose a child. My savior and strength is in God and I know he will cover me and my family as we prepare this home-going."
