Scholarship opens in honor of fallen Rockford officer Jaimie Cox

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) -- A scholarship is now available in honor of fallen Rockford police officer Jaimie Cox.

Hononegah Community High School graduates pursuing a career in emergency services can apply for the scholarship. According to the Rockton Police Department, two $1,000 rewards are available for applicants "who meet Jaimie's work ethic and duty to serve others."

Family members Caitlin and Adam Cox recently presented a $15,000 check raised through the 2018 Jaimie Cox Memorial 5K.

Cox died after a traffic stop Nov. 5, 2017 in Rockford followed by an outpouring of community support.

The Rockton Police Association manages the scholarship established in 2018. The deadline for HCHS students to apply for the scholarship is March 22.
