ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- The family of the Rockford man who died while in custody at the Winnebago County Jail rallied on Saturday, hoping to learn what happened.
Eugene Washington died in late October while he was in custody on a warrant.
Earlier this month, 23 News spoke with the Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force, the outside party working on the investigation, who said that the autopsy revealed no obvious sign of a struggle, waiting on further toxicology results before coming to any conclusion.
On Saturday, Washington's family met in the city to protest how long it has taken for them to get information on Eugene’s death, hoping to find closure.
"I can't fathom how it's taking this long, when they have video, they have audio and they won't release anything. What are they hiding or what are they keeping from us? What don't they want us as the family to know," said Janessa Shaw, Washington’s cousin.
