Exploring the beauty and wonder of American Indian culture

SOUTH BELOIT, Ill. (WIFR) ----- Dozens turned out to celebrate the beauty and majesty of American Indian culture Sunday afternoon in South Beloit.

Held at the Nature at the Confluence Learning Center, this interactive demonstration gave visitors the chance to hear authentic tribal music, learn traditional songs in the native language and explore the wonder of a pow wow circle, where audience members are invited to play instruments, sing and dance.

"I think it's very important for any culture to be able to pass that on, because the people here now are not going to be here forever, so we want to make sure that culture lives on,” said Kim Sigafus.

Visitors also learned about a new art installation created by Ho-Chunk artist Truman Lowe.
