BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) -- An ex-Beloit police officer was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for repeated sexual assault of a teenage girl.

Larry J. Woods, 63, pleaded guilty to federal charges in August.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Woods groomed his victim for months, and had a sexual relationship with her from late 2017 through his arrest in June 2018. Woods was a friend of the family of his minor victim, and had known the victim her entire life.

Federal charges include two counts of transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Woods was also convicted of the sexual assault in Rock County court and sentenced to 12 years in state prison on Sept. 27, 2019.

A judge ordered the federal sentence to run concurrently with Woods’ state sentence.
