BURBANK, Calif. (WIFR) -- The gift of giving comes full-circle for one woman who stepped up during last week's deep freeze.

Candice Payne was invited on the Ellen Show after being credited for picking up the hotel tab for nearly 70 homeless Chicago residents amid record-breaking temperatures.

Payne received a nice surprise during her visit, as Ellen presented a $25,000 check from Walmart. According to a Chicago Sun-Times report, Ellen requested another $25,000 from Walmart during a commercial break to bring the total reward to $50,000.

Payne told Ellen that she has acquired a newfound passion for helping the homeless. She plans on using the money for her non-profit, which helps homeless people with temporary and permanent housing.
