Drug trafficking investigation leads to arrest of Rockford man

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man was arrested following a multi-week drug trafficking investigation.

Jonnie Watts, 35, was charged with armed violence, possession with intent to deliver heroin within 500 feet of a school, unlawful use of weapons by a felon and two counts of unlawful possession of a stolen firearm.

Detectives conducted a search warrant on Oct. 9 after complaints of drug trafficking in the 200 block of Royal Avenue.

Ecstasy pills, heroin and two stolen handguns were recovered from the suspect’s home. A man and a woman were taken into custody, but the woman was released.

Watts is being held in the Winnebago County Jail. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
