ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- With summer winding down, dozens of families came out to bask in the sunshine and enjoy the best in pierogis, potato pancakes and sauerkraut at the 38th annual Polish Fest at St. Stanislaus Church on Sunday.

Kicking off with the bilingual Polish and English mass in the sanctuary, visitors enjoyed all-day entertainment with two Chicago-area bands, the IPA's and Format making tour stops in the forest city, students from the Polish Language School and Milwaukee's Syrena Polish Folk Song and Dance Ensemble wowed crowds with traditional performances.

"Oh my gosh, this is the big Polish event of the year, we have a bunch of Polish food, there's dancing, there's a lot of beer drinking, it's just a fun time," said committee member Chuck Grimes.

Kids enjoyed games and an inflatable playground, while those a little older tried their luck at a cash raffle and toured two rooms of artifacts from Poland in the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center.
