ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- Three downtown Rockford churches are working together to provide basic healthcare services to those who are under-served in our community.
Emmanuel Episcopal, Secondfirst and Court Street United Methodist teamed up for its third annual love Rockford event. The churches bring in nearly 30 agencies to provide healthcare and social services including addition counseling, domestic violence assistance and mental illness support as well as free haircuts to the under-served in our downtown area. Organizers are hoping this event will encourage people to continue to get the help they need.
“We have people that we serve that are all in need of several of these services, many of these services and they can't get to all of them. So they pick and choose based on their own prioritizing and sometimes they never get all they need so we're hoping we can initiate a relationship,” said senior pastor at Court Street United Methodist Church Calvin Culpepper.
Basic health screenings were also available on site free of charge. Organizers are hoping to expand the event to offer these services more than just once a year.
