DIXON, Ill (WIFR) -- A recent college grad and his two friends are traveling the country, in a head-turning car, to spread awareness about a serious topic.

The Mental Illness tour will pass through 48 states in a chicken car. The car acts as a conversation starter to break the silence about mental health issues, and share personal experiences. The friends feel one of the most important things about the tour is letting people know they're not alone in their struggle.

“Talking about mental illness is really difficult for a lot of people,” said Patrick Taylor, tour director. “It's something that is heart-felt and really impacts people; it's one of the most difficult things for people to deal with because the people around them don't typically know they're struggling.”

Taylor says he and his two friends who run the tour have all had personal, or family experiences with mental illness.
