DIXON, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Dixon man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a man's home, helping himself out to alcohol and sleeping on the owner's couch nude.

Joel E. Gartman is accused of breaking into a home in the 200 block of South Dement Avenue on Thursday.

Officers were called to the area after the homeowner reported there was an unwanted person in his home.

Police say Gartman broke into the home by tearing a screen and forcing open a window at the back of the home. Once inside, he allegedly unscrewed light bulbs and removed his shoes.

Gartman was also accused of taking three alcoholic beverages from the fridge and drinking them. While walking inside the house, he found a resident sleeping on a couch.

Police say Gartman removed his clothing and sat next to the resident while holding a fire place poker.

The homeowner woke up while Gartman was sleeping, informed his family and police, then confronted him, according to police. When officers arrived, Gartman allegedly tried to hide in the home.

Gartman was charged with residential burglary, criminal trespass to a residence, criminal damage to property, theft and disorderly conduct. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
