Discovery Center prepares for eclipse

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- With many people getting ready to view the eclipse, the Discovery Center is helping families prepare for the event by creating crafts to help view the spectacular.

Families have the chance to learn more about the eclipse while also being able to create their own eclipse viewers. They make shadow puppets and eat special eclipse cookies. The center also hands out 100 eclipse glasses this afternoon. They hope families will be able to enjoy watching the special event tomorrow, safely.

"A whole bunch of people coming up to teach and there's so much that we can learn about the sun and the moon and the earth and our relationships with one another. There's so much you can learn about space and we love to teach,” said director of education for the Discovery Center, Corinne Sosso.

The Discovery Center will host the same opportunity tomorrow, as well as a viewing party. They will also be giving away their last 100 pairs of viewing glasses.
