Discovery Center opens 'Bubble Play' exhibit gallery

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- Pop into the Discovery Center Museum and become immersed in the soapy science behind bubbles.

“Bubble is about play and imagination, but there’s also science behind it too and that’s really what we’re all about; making learning fun and that’s exactly what this gallery does,” says museum marketing director Ann Marie Walker.

The new bubble gallery combines sudsy science fun with experiments for the whole family.

“The staff was playing with it this morning and we were having fun,” said Walker, “Everyone was trying to outdo each other and come up with different ways to make bubbles. So I can definitely see the grown-ups enjoying this as much as the children.”

Kids can create bubbles of all sizes, stand inside a giant bubble and discover all you can do with bubbles.

“We researched bubble exhibits at children’s museums all over the country and picked the best ideas to use here,” said exhibit director Bruce Quast.

“We always had a body bubble exhibit at discovery center that’s been a visit favorite, but we wanted a new and improved version so we came up with this.”

One of those favorites: the giant body bubble maker. The experiment is making a return in the new exhibit as well as some new inventions like mist filled bubbles.

Kids of all ages are invited to test their soapy skills and attempt to make bubble art of their own.

“Bubbles is something simple they can do that at home. They can keep that kind of discovery and that experimentation going beyond the museum walls which is absolutely what we love.”

The bubble play exhibit is now open for visitors, seven days a week, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
