EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WIFR) -- Dixon School Resource Officer Mark Dallas received the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association Medal of Valor award on Friday.

The Medal of Valor is given to officers who exemplify bravery in the line of duty when facing a personal threat of life.

Dallas is credited for confronting suspected shooter Matthew Milby, who opened fire during graduation practice last May at Dixon High School. The award comes after he was honored as the International Association of Chiefs of Police "Officer of the Year" in October.

"I was very proud to have had the opportunity to present this award to Officer Dallas," said Lee County Sheriff John Simonton.

Dixon also had the opportunity to attend President Donald Trump's "State of the Union" address earlier in the week.
