ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The current phase of work on North Main Street may be coming to an end soon.
The phase of roadwork that has shut down North Main between Auburn and Pierce Avenue is expected to be complete by the end of this month. Over the past week, lanes have been closed as workers pour the concrete curbs as well as new driveways just south of the railroad tracks. Crews have also been out redoing the landscaping on both sides of North Main.
Starting next week, the western side of the North Main and Halsted Road intersection will be closed for sewer replacement. The project that started in March is part of a three-year, $32 million plan to renovate the two-mile roadway. IDOT says once plans are completed in 2019, North Main will have new sidewalks and gutters, and a multi-use path.
