Cronies Grill murder leaves several community members in fear

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill (WIFR) --- A fatal fatal bar shooting Sunday morning has sent shock waves through the Machesney Park community

For many Cronies Grill was a place you could walk to, get some food, grab a drink but a shooting Sunday morning left one Rockford man dead and another man injured.

28-year-old Kenneth Johnson faces eight counts of murder in the death of Russell Jefferson of Rockford.

Christine Oakes who lives a couple houses down from Cronies says this incident is unusual.

"Mostly, it's been very quiet, we heaven't had many troubles over the years with that bar," says Oakes.

Oakes says it's only in recent years that things began to shift, something she believes scares the community.

"There's neighbor that lives very close right there, she has young children and the fight trickled down into the street bullets could fly right into her front window," says Oakes.

In a statement released by the Village of Machesney Park, Mayor Steve Johnson says, "as Liquor Commissioner I will cal for a hearing of the Commission to get to the bottom of it, if i have to."

The village of Machesney Park says this incident is isolated.

"It's now time that we move forward with a look and investigation into how the facility is being operated, what security measures were in place," says village administrator, Tim Savage.
