The 66-year-old man identified as the victim of the fire at a Loves Park house fire is described fondly by neighbors.

Ryan Jones reached out to 23 News after the fire Thursday morning at 712 River Lane saying he was friends with Steven Miller.

Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz says Miller likely died from smoke inhalation after a blaze around 9:30 a.m. in the condemned home. Loves Park Fire has not said what exactly caused the fire yet.

Jones says Miller was "tough as nails" living in the home with no water, electricity or heat. He says Miller was an Air Force Veteran who suffered from mental illness and alcoholism.

Hintz says Miller's death is still under investigation and toxicology reports will be available in a few weeks.
