Crews helping Blackhawk Island residents evacuate amid flooding

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- Flooding continues to slam the Stateline, so much that local crews are helping some residents in Winnebago County evacuate their homes.

The Blackhawk and New Milford fire departments are actively evacuating residents in the Blackhawk Island neighborhood.

Seven residents and pets have already been transported out of their homes. Crews have been helping families since 8 a.m.

While evacuation is voluntary, crews encourage all residents to leave their homes. ComEd has turned off power in the area as a preventative measure since some electric trailers are underwater.

Fire chief Jonathan Trail believes Blackhawk Island is facing its highest water levels since 2010.
